When studying history, as well as when thinking about events that may take place in our lifetime or in the more distant future, it can be useful to know exactly on which day of the week a certain date falls. The program below can be used for this.

Universal calendar
(Only for the times from October 15, 1582 up to and including the year 2599).

Comments:

1. Why does this calendar calculation go no further back than October 15, 1582? Because that's when the Gregorian calendar came into effect. Before that time, already from the year 46 BC, the Julian calendar was in use. But this was not applied equally in all regions. Moreover later, from the year 284 to about the year 524, it was interrupted by the Diocletian calendar. After that the Julian calendar was continued again, but it is not clear whether it still corresponded correctly to its application in the begin period. Generally speaking: The further we go back in time, the more irregular the used calendars become. Around the beginning of our era, even the weather sometimes played a role in the calculation, when people started to determine the beginning of a new month. Therefore it is not possible to make a correct calendar system for all ages.
